7 Days in Bali: A Complete First-Timer Itinerary
South coast beaches, Ubud rice terraces and the Uluwatu cliffs - a seven-day Bali plan that never spends a whole day travelling.
Table of contents
A week in Bali splits cleanly into three movements: the south's beaches and nightlife, Ubud's rice fields and temples, and one optional island escape. This seven-day plan keeps each region as a base rather than a day trip, so you never spend a whole day in a car.
The plan at a glance
- Days 1-2: South Bali (Canggu or Seminyak) for beaches and sunset
- Days 3-5: Ubud for rice terraces, temples, waterfalls and cafes
- Days 6-7: Uluwatu cliffs, or a Nusa Penida day trip from Sanur
Days 1-2: arrive and reset in the south
Ngurah Rai airport is close to Canggu and Seminyak, so the first night lands you at a beachfront cafe in under an hour. Keep the first day loose: temple visit, sunset at the beach, early dinner. Jet lag does the planning for you.
- Arrange a pickup or use a ride app straight from the arrivals door
- Temple etiquette starts day one: sarong at the door, covered shoulders
- The beach sunset is the daily event on the south coast - do not fight it
Days 3-5: Ubud and the green centre
Ubud is the culture beat: Tegalalang rice terraces at first light, the Sacred Monkey Forest, waterfalls on the outskirts, and cooking classes that end in the best meal of your trip. Two full days here covers the icons without rushing.
- Tegalalang before 8am to beat both crowds and heat
- Waterfalls: Tegenungan is close and busy; Kanto Lampo and Tibumana are quieter
- A morning cooking class wraps rice fields, market and flavour into one morning
- Book a yoga or spa morning for the day your legs complain
Days 6-7: cliffs or an island day
Uluwatu's temples on the cliffs hold the island's best sunset ceremony, and the beaches below (Padang Padang, Dreamland) are the classic finish. If you have energy left, the early boat to Nusa Penida is a ripping full-day trip for those who like their adventures raw.

- Move between bases mid-day, not at rush hour - 9am-2pm is the sweet spot
- ATMs are everywhere in Canggu, Ubud and Seminyak; carry small notes for warungs
